Around 6 years ago, Abhay Hanjura and Vivek Gupta recognised that the raw meat industry in India was still unorganised and unmanaged.
There has never been a proper brand for meat nor there are any quality checks on them. They then established a startup Licious which is redefining this industry.
Launched in 2015, Licious is a Bangalore based startup that delivers meat and seafood to your kitchen when you order it online.
The two founders focused on how to serve hygienic and quality meat. So far 338.5 dollars have been funded in Licious. Recently IIFL AMC invested $52M dollar.
The company started with around 100 orders daily. Today it has emerged as a disruptive consumer brand and is serving around 20000 orders daily, fulfilling around 1M orders monthly.
It works on a farm-to-fork model. Everything from getting the goods from the farms, to processing, packaging and delivering is handled by the company itself.
It claims to be India's first D2C Unicorn startup brand, supply chain of Licious includes only Farmers-Licious-Consumer. There is no middle man involved.
Licious takes the help of tech tools and in house algorithms to analyze consumer behavior thereby reducing wastage and is able to offer customised offering.
It has shown good growth in 2020-21. Currently Licious is operating in 14 cities of India and plans to expand to 10 more cities in the next 1 year.
